40 miles
This area is a official OHV trail, for 62in rigs, 48 miles, with 3 trail heads and parking. It is in the Hells Canyon Ranger District of the National Forest. You will need a permit ($25 per machine, which is good for the year and all the other trails) and you can pick up a map or download the MVUM on to a device. It is located approx. 7 miles west, cross country from Pringle, South Dakota.(Elk Capital of SD.) It is a quiet area, we met no people, and the trails are grassy to overgrown old roads. You will ride thru Ponderosa pines, limestone canyons, summits with views of the large meadows to the south. Outstanding sights! It is well marked at the intersections.
We staged at the Bluebird trail head, which is located on the south end of Pleasant Valley Road. The trail winds its way in numerous directions, you can map it out or just see where you will end up!! Our favorite trails were #3206 and #3233. No gates to open because they installed cattle guards. Enjoy the photos!
