Fillmore & Marysvale, Utah

  Paiute Trail
Sept 29, 2011
Have you ever heard of the Paiute Trail?  It is one of the longest atv trails in central Utah. You can travel the whole 900 miles and stay at cabins along the way!
We started out at the KOA out of Fillmore Utah, where we rode right out of camp, up over the mountain. Oh, the huge aspen were in full fall color.  At the top of the mountain range, it is quite flat with a road running the full length.  We even rode down the other side into Richfield for lunch. Driving right on the busy streets with our atv’s.   No seemed to care.  We rode from the valley floor of 5,000 ft. to heights of 10,000 ft.  We spent couple of days exploring the mountain, wearing orange vest and caps since it was hunting season, but we didn't see many hunters.

Then we headed down to Marysvale, to Gregg and Connie's Pine Creek Cabins, and met up with our gang.  There are RV sites and cabins with linens and frig, etc.  It did snow 4 inches the day before, but melted by the next day.  We were riding on hill tops, aspen along the trail to Barney Lake. We also tried to ride on a pass which goes over the top, but we were turned around by snow at the top, 11,111 ft elevation.  We also went over to Freemont Indian State Park and Mus.   Many trails and maps to gather.

This is what happens when you can’t see the deep crevice in the snow and roll over, s l o w l y !

Near Fillmore we went to the Lava tubes and passed by Big Candy Rock Mountain, Marysvale

Bryce Canyon, Utah

Sept 18, 2011  70 miles
Our main reason was to tour Bryce Canyon Nat. Pk, but we found many trails around  the area. We camped at Ruby Inn, Bryce, Utah, after touring the Park for several days, we took off from the campground and headed thru the forest on trails and roads. Along the 70 miles that we rode, we saw red cliffs, lush green meadows, large aspen, ponderosa pine, valley views and cattle. Checked out King campground, a National Forest Camp, which was very nice, it has many trees, quiet setting and can ride right out of camp.  There are numerous trails, north and west of the park area to ride and camp at. As we were ready to leave, folks told us about riding the "Red Canyon" area, suppose to be a great area.  Next time!

See the atv?                                         Come around the corner and see this!

Poison Campground, Cascade Lake St Pk, Donnelley, Idaho

Sept 7, 2011We moved to Poison Campground at Cascade Lake St. Pk  near Donnelley.  This is a peaceful campground, some sites back right up to the lake.  Most of the riding was on gravel type roads, used as fire/logging roads. We ventured out and up the mountain to an old Fire Tower on a backwoods road.

We also hauled out to Blue Lake, to the south,  where you will find the Eagles Nest Volcano, which is hard to find because you are in it! It was warm 80*, ducks, geese, pelicans and a lone loon. We hiked into the lake, wow, what blue color, and great views.

Cascade, Idaho

Cascade, Idaho
Sept 1, 2011
We camped at Horse Thief Reservoir, free camping right on the lake north of Cascade on highway, toward Warm Lake .   There were miles of trails, mostly old logging roads, some trails. The area is forest, big hills, a lot of boon docking in many areas and they were full.  There were some mines to see and mountain top views.  We always bring our GPS, and it's a good thing we did, there are so many roads that intersect, you loose track of which one you rode or where to go.  Nice riding, some lakes to see also.  We also saw a Volkswagen THING!, Looks right out of an old war movie.  You can remove the top and doors, it is quite square shaped.  We seem to see one every six months after this sighting.
